The Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Department is instituting a new program where residents will be able to call and report dangerous teen drivers, allowing deputies to later contact the teen and her parents.
The program, called "Sheriff's Teen Traffic Offender Program", "STTOP, has been tried with some success in the Lost Hills/Malibu station, according to the department's press release.
Some reasons to call in are if the driver "screeches his tires, races another car or does other dangerous maneuvers," according to the station's release.
Deputies, who have not witnessed the behavior, will not follow up by writing a ticket but rather will speak with the teen and his parents about driving more safely and discuss the possibility of having the teen's driving privileges revoked by the parents.
The STTOP phone number for the Crescenta Valley communities is (818) 957-6132 and the web site is: www.sttop.net. The Station coordinators are Sergeant Gary Ogurek and Deputy Bill Fillpot.
