Santa Barbara Zoo Evacuates Animals As Wildfire Continues To Burn
The Thomas Fire threatened the air quality of the animals, zoo officials said.
SANTA BARBARA, CA -- The Santa Barbara Zoo on Sunday evacuated some animals as the Thomas Fire continued to scorch in Southern California. The Los Angeles Zoo said on Twitter that some of the animals were at its zoo.
In a series of online updates, officials at the Santa Barbara Zoo said they were implementing its emergency plan as they kept a close eye on the third largest wildfire in the state's history. As of Sunday, the deadly wildfire stood at 269,000 acres and was 40 percent contained.
The Santa Barbara Zoo said it was closed Sunday and canceled Zoo Camp for Monday and Tuesday.

"We are monitoring news and official reports and continue acting to ensure the safety of our staff and animals," officials wrote.
