Simi Flooding Could Affect Morning Commute

As of 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, the area of Medera and Tierra Rejada roads was still flooded.

Flooding caused by a burst water main in Simi Valley may affect Wednesday morning commutes, according to the Simi Valley Police Department.

The break occurred at Madera and Tierra Rejada roads and the police department issued an initial advisory regarding flooding at 8:24 p.m. Tuesday. At 9:44 p.m., it issued a second advisory warning that the area would remain congested for the remainder of the evening and could still be impacted for the morning commute.

The cause of the main break was still unknown when the police department issued the advisory. It did say work crews would likely have to excavate asphalt during daylight hours to make repairs.

Madera Road will remain partially open for north- and south-bound traffic, but drivers should expect delays, SVPD said. No traffic was being permitted west on Tierra Rejada Road (toward Moorpark) at publication time.  This will likely continue into the morning, according to the police department.

The police department offered the following advice to drivers:

Drivers can use alternate routes along First Street, connecting with Royal Avenue to meet Madera Road. Drivers wishing to get to Moorpark should use the 118 Ronald Reagan Freeway, accessible by First Street, Sycamore Drive, Madera Road, Tapo Canyon Road or other alternatives.
