Thomas Fire Burns Through Million-Dollar Homes
The wildfire that stands at 271,500 acres is 50 percent contained.
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CA -- As it enters its third week, the Thomas Fire moved on from the upscale city of Montecito by burning million dollar homes to the ground. As of Tuesday morning, the California wildfire stood at 271,500 acres and was 50 percent contained.
The wildfire, which began on Dec. 4 in the city of Santa Paula, scorched through Ventura County before making its way to Santa Barbara County. Fire officials said it could go on to become the largest wildfire in the state's history.
More than 8,000 firefighters still stood on the line of the fire along with 876 engines and 35 helicopters. Since it ignited, the Thomas Fire burned through 1,000 structures and damaged 250 other structures. About 18,000 structures remained threatened, fire officials said. Two people, including a firefighter, have also been killed.

The fire has so far cost an estimated $130 million in damages.
