2 Arrested, Many Cited At Sobriety Checkpoint In RivCo Labor Day Weekend
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

SAN JACINTO, CA — Sheriff's deputies arrested two people on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, and 16 other citations were issued over the first night of Labor Day Weekend, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department reports.
The 16 citations involved violations such as driving with a suspended/revoked license or without a license at a Friday DUI checkpoint in San Jacinto.
The DUI checkpoint was held at Redlands Ave and San Jacinto Ave. from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

"A total of eight drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, and 376 vehicles were contacted. A total of 25 vehicles were subject to secondary screening, 10 field sobriety tests were conducted, and one vehicle was towed," said Sgt. Jeremy Bracey who compiled the report.
DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the roads.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
