5 Displaced, Dog Suffers Smoke Inhalation In RivCo Morning Blaze: Cal Fire

MENIFEE, CA — Cal Fire/Riverside County Firefighters battled a Menifee hazardous materials blaze that began at a tire facility and spread from a home to commercial buildings early Monday. The fire burned through a quarter-acre of a tire facility near Menifee.

Shortly after 2 a.m. in the 25600 block of Second Street at Highway 74 east of the city limits, according to a Cal Fire spokesperson.

Arriving firefighters requested additional engines, as well as crews from SoCal Gas and Southern California Edison to assist with securing downed power lines, and Environmental Health representatives to mitigate hazards from the burning tires, fire officials said.

No injuries were reported, but residents of the house were displaced, fire officials said.

"By about 4 a.m., crews had gained the upper hand on the fire, and it was declared out by 7 a.m.," a Cal Fire spokesperson said.

In all, four structures were damaged, and one RV was destroyed, according to the fire department.

The Red Cross was assisting five adults and one child who were displaced, and animal control was requested for a dog that had smoke inhalation, but no firefighters or civilians were injured.
