Blaze Engulfs Mobile Home, Spreads To Brush In RivCO

WINCHESTER, CA — A fire that erupted Thursday in a Winchester mobile home consumed most of the structure and consumed nearly a half-acre of surrounding vegetation before crews stopped it.
The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:20 p.m. Thursday in the area of Simpson Road and Longfellow Street, just west of Highway 79, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.
The agency stated that multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered flames raging in a vacant mobile home, extending into trees and shrubs around the structure.

Winds were light and variable.
Firefighters established hose lays around the property by 1:40 p.m., largely containing the blaze, according to reports from the scene.

There were no reports of damage to electrical poles or natural gas feeder lines at the location.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
