Board Chair Wants To Change Supervisors' Meeting Times

The reason for the requested change? Heavy traffic.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — To reduce Riverside County government employees' time in heavy traffic, Board of Supervisors Chairman Kevin Jeffries Tuesday will argue that board meetings should start a half-hour later every Tuesday.

Board meetings, by ordinance, get underway at 9 a.m., though in the past some chairmen, including former Supervisor Bob Buster, initiated unofficial proceedings that were not agendized earlier in the morning.

According to Jeffries' proposal, the 9 a.m. meeting opener forces "attendees -- public and staff -- to travel the freeways and local roads during the end of peak rush-hour period. Moving the start time to 9:30 a.m. would allow attendees to avoid peak congestion periods."

The chairman is proposing to inaugurate the new schedule on June 11.

The time change would require amending both Ordinance No. 531 and Policy A-2.

A majority vote is required to ratify the revisions.
