City Of Murrieta Named A 'Top Workplace' In Inland Empire
The confidential survey of more than 230 city employees measured 15 culture drivers, officials said.

MURRIETA, CA — The city of Murrieta was recently awarded a "Top Workplaces 2023" honor in the Inland Empire Top Workplaces category.
The top-workplaces nod was based on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by Energage LLC. The confidential survey measured 15 culture drivers including alignment, execution and connection, to name a few, according to the city.
Energage LLC is an "employee engagement technology partner," the city reported.

“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “That's something to be proud of. In today's market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That's paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”

- Meaningfulness: My job makes me feel like I am part of something meaningful.
- Direction: I believe the city of Murrieta is going in the right direction.
- Inclusion: I feel included at the city of Murrieta.
Other words that scored high included: professional, positive, team-oriented, fulfilling, proactive, honest, driven, culture, empathetic, rewarding, and happy, according to the city.
This survey also gave the city a snapshot of where improvements can be made with employees: interdepartmental cooperation, clued-in leaders, and open-mindedness were areas cited as needing improvement, according to the city.
Additionally, employees provided feedback such as, overworked, disconnected, underpaid, clique, poor leadership, consistent, inconsistent, micromanaged, and exclusive, as words that popped up.
“There is no perfect organization, and we are always striving to move in a forward direction,” Murrieta City Manager Kim Summers said. “We are working to understand these concerns and the actions we need to take at the leadership level and as individual employees. Overall, I am very pleased with the results and that many of the areas we have focused on are successful.
“Only 33 companies made the list and I’m proud to see Murrieta named a top workplace," Summers added.
