Early Morning Crash Leads To Power Outage, Road Closure In Murrieta

Early Wednesday, a car crashed into a power pole, downing lines and leading to a road closure. Here's where to avoid.

MURRIETA, CA — An early morning crash involving a utility power pole led to the northbound lane closures at Whitewood Road, between Clinton Keith Road and Linnel Lane, Murrieta Police Department shared.

Shortly before 5 a.m., a car and power pole collided for reasons still under investigation. The report of a power pole down in lanes was shared with Southern California Edison's outage team.

According to police, the southbound lanes of Whitewood Road would remain open for traffic.

Repair work on the power pole was underway as of 10:30 a.m. Power was not expected to be fully restored until at least 3:30 p.m.

"Edison is on scene working to mediate the issue," a spokesperson for the department said. "The power is out for approximately 24 residents for 2-4 hours until utility crews can ground the lines."

Power will remain out to 1 resident directly next to the affected power pole.
