Swaths of Inland Empire residents will gather this month to raise awareness for breast cancer in Murrieta. What to know.

MURRIETA, CA — Whether you lost a loved one to breast cancer or you're facing a diagnosis, the Komen Inland Empire More Than Pink walk welcomes all to raise awareness and find support on Sunday, Oct. 13.

Every year, the Susan G. Komen event series gathers more than 100,000 people to participate in more than 40 walks across the nation not only to build community but to fundraise for breast cancer research, better access to treatment and more.

Susan Goodman Komen, after which the foundation is named, died in 1980 of breast cancer at age 3.

"As a part of my healing from breast cancer, I wanted to walk. I walk for me, for my aunt and for those we’ve lost to this terrible disease," Nia Gilliam, a breast cancer survivor, said of the walk.

This year, the walks have raised $6 million of the foundation's $13.3 million goal. Since the first walk in 2018, the foundation has raised more than $60 million.
