MURRIETA, CA — Without community leaders, Murrieta wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

Patch has partnered with T-Mobile to recognize these often unsung community leaders and celebrate their contributions.

This submission comes from Pamela Jo Wilson, a Murrieta reader who nominated Dr. Sheri Parker.

What does this community leader do?

As president of the Murrieta-Temecula Area Alumnae Chapter, Dr. Parker leads our membership in the many community service projects we perform each year. For example, we partner with the Murrieta United Methodist Church’s Food Pantry by giving out socks to the homeless each month. Several of our members volunteer as “readers” to the TK-K students at Julia Lee Performing Arts Academy in Lake Elsinore, host Annual September Breakfast at Pechanga with a focus on building community partnerships and civic engagements-proceeds used to support chapter programs and finally, our chapter hosts three youth initiative programs: Delta Academy, GEMS and EMBODI for youth who live in South Riverside County. All of these service projects are performed under the direction and dedicated leadership of Dr. Parker.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

Dr. Parker and her family have lived in Murrieta for the past 30 years. The Parker children attended Murrieta Valley Unified School District. As our community grew and more members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. moved into the area, Dr. Parker committed to chartering a local chapter. In 2020, the Murrieta-Temecula Area Alumnae Chapter was charted. Since then, we have been partnering with other organizations ans well as promoting our organizational initiatives successfully.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Dr. Parker is a committed community servant. She understands we are stronger together as we commit to filling the needs of our youth, our aging and our families. Dr. Parker understands Community!
