Student Pepper Sprays Others At IE Charter School: 2 Taken To Hospital

MORENO VALLEY, CA — Two youths were injured Wednesday when a fellow student inadvertently fired pepper spray at a Moreno Valley charter school.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies were called to The Journey School at 25560 Alessandro Blvd. at about 1 p.m. to investigate reports of "a juvenile accidentally releasing pepper spray in a classroom," according to agency spokeswoman Sgt. Wenndy Brito Gonzalez.

Paramedics were summoned to the K-6 campus soon afterward to render medical aid.

"Paramedics medically cleared all those who were exposed to the pepper spray," Gonzalez said. "Two juveniles were transported to the hospital for further evaluation."

There was no word regarding why the unidentified student brought the self-defense repellant to the campus, or whether he or she would face repercussions.

The Journey School is part of the Inland Empire-based Real Journey Academies charter school network founded in 2008.
