MURRIETA, CA — Thousands of American flags will be on display starting this weekend in Murrieta with the 15th annual Field of Honor that runs Nov. 4-11.
The Field of Honor at Town Square Park recognizes those who served or are serving in the U.S. armed forces, law enforcement, fire, and other first responder posts, plus personal heroes.
Each American flag is 3 feet by 5 feet on an 8-foot pole and can be purchased for dedication from the Rotary Club of Murrieta for $35. To purchase a flag, go to murrietarotaryclub.org/product/flag-sponsorship. Proceeds benefit community projects, according to the Murrieta Rotary.

The Field of Honor idea was originally brought to the city by Bob Bryant, a Murrieta Rotary club president and Vietnam veteran. Since that time, Field of Honor has become a signature event for the city. It is free and open to all.

This year's Field of Honor opening ceremonies are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. Nov. 4. Along with perfect rows of flags and appearances by local dignitaries, artists participating in the Al Vollbrecht Rotary Chalk Walk will create patriotic works on the sidewalks surrounding the park.
More events will occur in the days to follow at Field of Honor, including a 6 p.m. Nov. 8 candlelight concert featuring choirs from Murrieta middle schools and a reading of “Letters from War” by the Wunderlich family.
A salute to the U.S. Marines Corps on its 248th birthday is scheduled at 12 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Field of Honor. Murrieta’s popular Veterans Day Parade will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Nov. 11, and will be followed by the city's unveiling of its new Vietnam War Memorial Wall at Town Square Park.
“Murrieta Rotary and our partners are honored to present this spectacular event as a gift to our Southwest Riverside community,” said Rob Haskins, 2023-24 club president. “And we are especially thankful for our Field of Honor sponsors who not only make this event possible but also make it possible for Rotary to fund many significant projects throughout the year.”
