MURRIETA, CA — A Murrieta resident was arrested after he repeatedly fired a gun in his front yard on the Fourth of July, according to police.

Officers were patrolling in a neighborhood the night of July 4 when they heard gunfire nearby, police said. They found the house where the shots were fired after discovering 15 shell casings on the ground, according to police.

The resident complied with officers, admitted to firing his handgun in his yard and was taken into custody, police said, adding they found the weapon in his vehicle.

The shooter was booked into county jail on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm, according to police.
