Murrieta Program To Aid Those With Special Needs During Traffic Stops

Residents with conditions like autism or anxiety will be able to use the Blue Envelop program to reduce stressful interactions with police.

MURRIETA, CA — The Murrieta Police Department is adopting the Blue Envelop Program, which is designed to reduce stressful interactions between law enforcement and those with special needs.

Beginning this month, residents diagnosed with disabilities — such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, dementia, anxiety or other conditions that may require awareness — will be able to carry Blue Envelop branded items to present during traffic stops or other interactions with police.

The program is voluntary and self-implemented, according to the department. Anyone who would like to pick up Blue Envelope program materials can stop by the Murrieta Police Department and ask the front desk.

How It Works

Residents who opt-in will be able to readily display a Blue Envelope logo or present a Blue Envelope upon contact with a police officer, deputy or other community service employee.
