Murrieta School Shooting Threat Unfounded, Police Say
An image circulating on social media "led people to believe a school shooting was going to occur," police said.
MURRIETA, CA — A school shooting threat in Murrieta was unfounded, according to police.
Law enforcement were made aware Tuesday night of an image circulating on social media, “which led people to believe a school shooting was going to occur,” Murrieta police said in a Facebook post Wednesday morning.
Patrol and school resource officers investigated and found no credible threat to a person or school, according to police, who said the image was generic with no schools or people named, but that the Murrieta Unified School District was notified of the situation. The same image has been circulating in other school districts, police said.
