RivCo Health Officials Encourage HIV Testing

The advisory was issued on World AIDS Day, which is dedicated to raising awareness of HIV/AIDS and mourning those lost to the disease.

The following is a Dec. 1, 2023, news release from the county of Riverside:

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Today and every day, the County of Riverside continues the fight against HIV/AIDS through increasing awareness, prevention and providing life-saving support to those affected. This year's World AIDS Day, "Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access, Everyone's Voice," highlights the importance that everyone must have access to these vital services. That commitment is felt throughout the county and the many partner agencies providing HIV/AIDS services to the community.

“Medical advancements have allowed those with HIV and AIDS to live longer and fuller lives but the work is not done,” said Dr. Geoffrey Leung, Riverside County public health officer. “We want to remember and mourn those who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS. We want to commit to raising awareness about HIV/AIDS and combating stigma around this disease.”

World AIDS Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made in the fight against HIV/AIDS and to address the challenges that persist. The County of Riverside is dedicated to increasing awareness, reducing stigma, providing testing and prevention services, as well as offering supportive services to those affected.

Riverside University Health System (RUHS) Department of Public Health offers accessible and confidential HIV testing services for residents. Testing is a crucial step in preventing the spread of HIV and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

HIV testing, care and wrap-around services are provided at three RUHS - Public Health clinic locations. Care includes client-focused, individualized treatment plans. Wrap-around services include nutrition therapy and support from a social services professional. To find a testing location near you, residents can visit HIV/STD Program or book an appointment by calling (951) 358-6037.

Riverside County is committed to fostering a supportive environment for those living with HIV as we continue to work towards a future where new infections are rare.
