'She Has Made Over 500 Masks': Murrieta Hero

MURRIETA, CA — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented times. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these everyday heroes.

This submission comes from Maria Heim of Murrieta, who nominated her daughter, Laney Heim:

What does the nominee do for work?:
She is an 8th grade middle school student at Sage Oak Charter. Volunteers at EQQU8 (nonprofit therapeutic equestrian program for individuals with special needs) and at the Temecula Public Library for their summer reading program

Why do you believe the nominee should be recognized or honored?
She has made and donated over 500 masks to local hospitals, pediatric clinics, local police and sheriff departments, care homes, grocery store employees, VA facilities, and individuals in need of a masks.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about your hero?:
At only 13 years old, the level of kindness, generosity, and compassion she shows towards all she meets are qualities we should all strive for especially during these difficult times.
