MURRIETA, CA — America's fighting men and women will be honored Monday during the city of Murrieta's 22nd annual "Veterans Day Parade," featuring marching bands, representatives from all service branches, public safety personnel and area civic leaders.

The event is slated to get underway at 10 a.m. Monday, Veterans Day, near the intersection of Ivy Street and Washington Avenue, rolling through the historic downtown area along Washington to Town Square Park, where the "Field of Honor" will be on display at Adams Avenue and Kalmia Street.

High school marching bands will be participating in the event, along with veterans groups, personnel from the U.S. Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy, law enforcement and firefighters, Mayor Lori Stone and others from the city and Riverside County.

Ceremonies will conclude at the Field of Honor, which is sponsored by the Murrieta Rotary Club.

The site is established every November as a memorial to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the U.S. Armed Services, and a salute to those who have completed their service or remain on active duty.

"The Field features sections for `Medal of Honor' recipients, `Local Heroes' -- those from Riverside and San Bernardino counties who have given their lives for this country since 2003 -- historical flags, one flag dedicated to those who perished in 9/11, and state flags," according to the Rotary.

The tribute is in its 16th year, and hundreds of 3-by-5-foot American flags will be on display beginning Saturday and continuing until the end of next week, thanks to donations to the Rotary.

"We can take extra pride in the service of others to our nation and our community," Rotary Club President Jim Yanoschik said.
