Vista Murrieta HS Student Arrested After Alleged Online Threat
The 14-year-old VMHS student, whose identity was not released due to age, was taken into custody Monday night.

MURRIETA, CA — Additional police officers were assigned to Vista Murrieta High School Tuesday following the arrest of a student who allegedly threatened to bring a gun to campus.
The 14-year-old VMHS student, whose identity was not released due to age, was taken into custody Monday night on suspicion of making a threat against another student. The child was subsequently booked into Juvenile Hall, the Murrieta Police Department reported.
The investigation began at approximately 8:30 p.m. Monday after a concerned parent called police about the student who, via a social media chat group, was threatening to bring a gun to school the next day, according to the police department.

Investigators determined there was enough evidence to arrest the child, police said.
On Tuesday morning, extra police patrols were on hand at VMHS "out of an abundance of caution," according to the department.

"The Murrieta Police Department takes threats against students or schools seriously," the agency said in a news release. "Any threat to a student or a school will be thoroughly investigated and forwarded to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for filing and prosecution."
