Washington Avenue In Murrieta Getting Another Traffic Signal

MURRIETA, CA — The city of Murrieta has signed off on a construction bid for a new traffic signal to be installed at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Weeping Willow Lane (at Centerpoint Church, 24470 Washington Avenue).

The new light will provide four-way signalized access at the church on the east side of Washington and Weeping Willow Lane on the west side.

The nearest signalized intersections on Washington are Vineyard Parkway/Lemon Street to the north and Kalmia Street to the south.

The $583,304 construction bid was awarded to Temecula-based DBX Inc. during the Nov. 21 Murrieta City Council meeting. The contract includes a 15% contingency of $87,495 for a total of $670,799, city documents show.

The city advertised the project on Aug. 29 and received a total of seven construction bids, with DBX being the lowest.

The new signal will include protected left-turns; pedestrian ramps updated to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act requirements; ability to control and monitor the signal from City Hall; a new bike lane for northbound traffic; bike detection at all approaches to the intersection; and pavement refreshing, according to city documents.

On Aug. 15, City Council held a public hearing and approved its Fiscal Year 2023/24 to fiscal year 2027/28 Capital Improvement Plan budget, which included priority traffic signal projects.
