Woman Fatally Hit By Car While Walking In Murrieta, Police Say

A 60-year-old woman was hit by a car while walking in Murrieta just before Thanksgiving.

MURRIETA, CA — A 60-year-old woman was struck and killed by a vehicle as she walking on a street in Murrieta on Wednesday, police said Friday.

Debbie Aponte of Murrieta was hit just before 6:30 p.m. the day before Thanksgiving as she was walking along Murrieta Hot Springs Road at Calle Del Lago, the Murrieta Police Department said on social media.

Authorities attempted to perform life-saving measures but Aponte died of her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with officers, police said. He provided a statement and did not display signs or symptoms of being impaired, officers said.

Investigators say the woman may have been walking in the roadway or attempting to cross it when she was hit. Since several vehicles were in the area during and immediately after the accident, officers are urging anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the station.
