21 Cited, 3 Arrested At Newark DUI Checkpoint
Officers cited or arrested nearly two dozen drivers for alleged violations during an overnight traffic checkpoint in Newark.

NEWARK, CA — Nearly two dozen drivers were cited and three were arrested at a police checkpoint in Newark over the weekend, officials said Monday.
The checkpoint operated near Thorton Avenue and Newark Boulevard from 6 p.m. Friday until 2 a.m. Saturday. Checkpoint locations are chosen based on previous crashes linked to impaired driving.
In a news release Monday, police said officers wrote 21 citations for drivers who were found to be driving without a valid license or a suspended license. One driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, another for driving without a court-mandated ignition interlock device, and a third for possession of a controlled substance, police said.

The department expects Newark's next DUI checkpoint will take place later next year as part of the National Summer DUI Mobilization campaign.
