UPDATE: Suspicious Device Found Near Interstate 880 Likely a Hoax

Black device was attached to transformer box in industrial area on Kato Road in Fremont.

Bay City News — Fremont police and the Alameda County Sheriff's Office are investigating a suspicious object found in Fremont near Interstate 880 this morning, police said.

At about 7:10 a.m., police received a call from someone reporting that a black cylindrical object was found attached to a transformer box in the 48000 block of Kato Road, which is just south of Warren Avenue near Warm Springs.

Fremont police Sgt. Chris Mazzone said the object is wrapped in electrical tape, has a battery attached to it and a red cap on top, and "looks like it could be an explosive device."

According to a report on KCBS, the Alameda County Bomb squad knocked it down with a water cannon and the device looks to be a fake.

Kato Road is in an industrial area near Interstate Highway 880. Motorists are being told that traffic may be delayed and to avoid the area and nearby businesses were temporarily evacuated.
