Bones Found in Newark Back Yard

Officials say the bones likely belonged to the Ohlone Indians.

A family who was working in their back yard over the weekend found something that delayed their construction project.

Police said officers responded to a home on Calais Place around 10:42 a.m. Saturday and learned the family had found numerous bones while they were digging in their yard.

According to a Newark police statement, the bones were confirmed by the Alameda County Coroner's Office to be human remains. Officials with the coroner's office said the bones possibly belonged to natives of the Ohlone tribe.
