Brothers Arrested After Shooting Near Whiskeytown Saloon

No injuries were reported.

Two brothers were arrested after a shooting in front of a bar early Sunday morning, police said.

According to Newark police, officers were called to the Newark Square Shopping Center around 12:45 a.m. Sunday after someone reported a shooting was happening in front of Whiskeytown Bar.

Police said dispatchers heard gunfire shots in the background while the call was being made.

Officers arrived and tried to stop a vehicle in which the suspects were using to escape the area. Hayward residents Troy Duran, 26, and Derek Duran, 30, were arrested without incident, police said.

Authorities found a loaded 9mm handgun inside of the suspects’ vehicle and shell casings from a 9mm were recovered at the scene.

Police said the shooting may have erupted after a fight began that involved people who werestanding in the parking lot of the bar.

The Duran brothers were booked into Fremont Jail. Troy Duran was arrested on suspicion of negligent shooting at a building, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and possession of a firearm in a vehicle. Derek Duran was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to the incident.

Troy Duran is being held on a $330,000 bail, while Derek Duran is being held on a $20,000 bail. Both are scheduled for an arraignment Monday afternoon, according to county online documents.
