Car Catches Fire After Driver Hits Parked Truck

Fire officials say one person was injured.

A car caught fire after a person drove it into a parked black pick-up truck Monday afternoon, fire officials said.

Only one person was injured but the condition and identity of that person was not released. That person was driving a white Cadillac CTS.

Two fire trucks tended to the incident, which occurred on the 35700 block of Newark Boulevard near Brittany Avenue before 1:30 p.m., said Fire Captain Steve Perry of the Alameda County Fire Department.

The black Chevrolet pick up was pushed up onto a power line, but Perry said residents did not report power outages. PG&E crews were on scene until at least 2:20 p.m. to check on the cables, Perry added.

Police officers closed southbound Newark Boulevard between Cedar Boulevard and Brittany Avenue while fire crews tended to the accident. The area was clear by 2:20 p.m.
