Crime Log: Man Hospitalized After Liquor Store Robbery; Drunk Twins Arrested

The following is a summary of significant crime and incidents reported in Newark between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2 as released by the Newark Police Department. 

MONDAY, NOV. 26

Bicyclist Spotted Riding on Wrong Side of Road, Flees from Officers

A 39-year-old homeless man was arrested after police tried to stop him after he was spotted riding a bicycle on the wrong side of the road. Authorities said instead of stopping for the officer, the man jumped into a backyard of a home on the 6200 block of Radcliff Avenue. He was eventually arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest, prowling and for an outstanding felony warrant.

Authorities responded to Crestmont Avenue after a person reported that a man was in front of a home with his pants down. The man was only described as a white man in his 30s.

TUESDAY, NOV. 27

Women Arrested For Climbing into Vacant Motel Room

Two women were arrested after it was reported that the pair climbed into a vacant room at Motel 6 around 3:30 a.m. The 22-year-old Hayward woman and 23-year-old Fremont woman were arrested on suspicion of trespassing.

Drunk Driver Causes Accident

A 50-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after a car collision occurred on Cedar Boulevard near Breton Drive around 9:50 p.m.

WEDNESDAY, NOV. 28

Restaurant Employee Robbed at Gunpoint

Police responded to Cousin Café on the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard after an employee reported that he was robbed around 11:30 a.m. Authorities said the employee reported that as he was serving a table outside of the restaurant, a suspect pulled out a gun and demanded he hand over his iPhone. No suspect description was available and the suspect fled on foot.

THURSDAY, NOV. 29

Shoplifter Arrested from Sears

Police arrested a 21-year-old Union City man was arrested on suspicion of petty theft after it was reported that he shoplifted from Sears at NewPark Mall around 12:30 p.m.

Man Hospitalized After Liquor Store Robbery

A liquor store manager suffered facial injuries and was hospitalized after getting into an argument with two robbery suspects. Police were called to Madeira’s Liquors on Thornton Avenue around 1:30 p.m. after it was reported that two suspects punched the manager in the face after he confronted them while they were in the process of taking packages of Modelo beer that was being delivered to the store. The suspects fled the area.

Driver Arrested After Hit-and-run Collision

A 48-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run after police were notified that the driver fled from a collision that just occurred on Colbert Street around 1:40 p.m. Police found the driver slumped over the steering wheel on Mayhews Landing near the railroad tracks and he was arrested.

FRIDAY, NOV. 30

Three Vehicle-Related Thefts Reported in Morning

An attempted auto burglary and a stolen vehicle was reported between the hours of 6:40 a.m. and 8:05 a.m. Police said the attempted burglary occurred on the 5100 block of Elmwood and the stolen vehicle was taken from the 36000 block of Cherry Street. A third vehicle was reported stolen on the 35000 block of Cherry Street but it was found abandoned on Cherry Street shortly after with the engine still running, but no keys were in the vehicle.

Three Homes Burglarized

  • A home on the 36000 block of Ruschin Drive was found ransacked, and authorities said the suspect(s) entered through a side window that was smashed.
  • A home burglary was reported on the 7000 block of Fountaine Avenue around 2:10 p.m. Authorities said the suspect(s) entered through a rear window and cash was stolen.

Home Burglarized, Trio Arrested

A home on the 36000 block of Christine Street was burglarized some time between 5 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Police said the suspect(s) entered by kicking down a side garage door. About an hour later, police stopped a vehicle on Buena Vista Drive and Parada Street and found the property taken in the Christine Street burglary inside of the suspects’ vehicles. The vehicles occupants included an 18-year-old Newark man, a 21-year-old East Palo Alto man and a 19-year-old Newark woman. All three were arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property.

SATURDAY, DEC. 1

Man Found with Burglary Tools

A 26-year-old Fremont man was arrested after police found him in a parking lot of Overlake Place with ‘’shaved automotive keys.’’ He was arrested on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and booked into Fremont jail.

 

SUNDAY, DEC. 2

Drunk Twins Arrested After Arguing with Relatives

Police arrested a 19-year-old man after responding to a family disturbance around 2:30 a.m. The man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was booked into Fremont Jail. Approximately an hour later, police were called to the same apartment for a report of a family disturbance and the aforementioned man’s twin brother was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was booked into Fremont jail.

Drunk Man Knocks on Wrong Door

A 28-year-old San Jose man was arrested after police were called to Stafford Place around 5 a.m. to a report of a person pounding on a resident’s front door looking for his friend. The man’s friend did not live there and the man was arrested on suspicion of public drunkenness and booked into Fremont jail.

Vehicle Stolen From Cherry Street

A 1993 BMW 225i was reported stolen. Police said the vehicle, described as a four-door vehicle with a license number of 4SBW069, was taken from the 36000 block of Cherry Street.

Disturbance at ‘’Psychic House’’ Leads to Three Arrests

Three people were arrested after police were called to the “Psychic House” on Thornton Avenue shortly before 8 p.m. when it was reported that a man was chasing a woman with an unknown subject in his hand. After investigating, a 36-year-old Newark woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a meth pipe and being under the influence of drugs, a 27-year-old Newark man was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth pipe and a 54-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a concealed knife.

Minor Injury Accident Occurs in Construction Zone

A driver was hospitalized after a head-on, minor injury traffic collision occurred in a construction area on Cedar Boulevard near Milani Avenue around 8 p.m.
