Man Steals Food and Runs – Into an Officer

A 28-year-old homeless man was arrested after he tried to grab food and run from the Market on Thornton Avenue near Sycamore Street around 8 p.m. Sunday. As the man was running out of the market, an officer pulled up to the front of the store with intentions to pick up his dinner at a nearby restaurant and saw the man try to flee on a bicycle. The man didn’t get far and police said he was arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Man Threatens to “Kill Everyone Inside” Newark Home

A 31-year-old San Jose man was arrested around 1:40 p.m. Friday. Police said the man is restrained from talking to his wife and three children and that he was arrested after knocking on the front door of a home on Potrero Drive and threatening to “kill everyone inside.” He was arrested on suspicion of violating a domestic violence restraining order and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

17-Year-Old Caught Selling Stolen Bike

Newark police arrested a 17-year-old boy just before 7 a.m. Friday after a person reported finding his stolen bicycle being advertised for sale on Craigslist. Police called the suspect and set up a time to meet him at a 7 Eleven convenience store. When he arrived, officers arrested him and the 17-year-old later admitted to stealing two other bicycles that he said he gave to his friends. Those bicycles were later recovered and returned to their owners. The teenager was arrested on suspicion of petty theft, cited and released to his parents.

Gang-Related Drive-By Shooting on Mirabeau Drive

A house on the 6300 block of Mirabeau Drive was around 12:33 a.m. Wednesday. No one was injured. Authorities said about six shots were fired into the home. Police also confirmed this week that the incident is believed to be gang-related and that the shooting occurred in the same area of a May 2011 .

18-Year-Old Injured in Gang-Related Stabbing

An 18-year-old Newark man was critically injured in a that authorities said is gang-related. Officers responded to the Newark Square Shopping Center Tuesday just before 8 p.m. Tuesday to reports of a man being stabbed multiple times. Police said the victim’s injuries were life-threatening and he was taken to a local trauma center.

Man Threatens Girlfriend

A 26-year-old Newark man was arrested Monday after police concluded an investigation in which the man, whose girlfriend has a restraining order against him, allegedly tried to swerve into his girlfriend’s car as he was following her, police said. Authorities said the man had also held a knife to the victim’s throat in a separate, unreported incident. The man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, threats, damage to phone or phone lines, domestic violence, false imprisonment and six counts of violating a restraining order. He was booked into Fremont Jail.

Burglary and Theft

A 26-year-old Hayward man was arrested on suspicion of theft and possession of illegal drugs at Burlington Coat Factory around 9:30 p.m. Friday. He was booked into Fremont City Jail.

A stereo was stolen from a vehicle some time between Wednesday and 4 p.m. Friday from a car parked at the Murieta Condominum complex on the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard.

A home burglary on the 37100 block of San Antonio Street was reported around 3 p.m. Friday and authorities said suspects likely entered through a rear sliding glass door. Loss is unknown.

Drugs and Alcohol

A 43-year-old Newark woman was hospitalized after police were called to the Murieta Condominiums on the 39000 block of Cedar Boulevard to a report of a drunk woman around 3 p.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, police found the woman with injuries and determined she was not able to care for herself due to being too drunk. She was transported to a local hospital and treated. Authorities are seeking criminal charges for the woman being drunk in public.

A 32-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine after police were called to around 2:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of trespassing. The woman was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

A 29-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance after police said he illegally crossed Cedar Boulevard and North Magazine Road around 9:10 a.m. Thursday. He was booked into Fremont City Jail.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and for a DUI warrant around 12:30 a.m. Thursday after police responded to on Thornton Avenue to a report of a car stopped in the drive thru. The man was booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Miscellaneous

A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of brandishing a weapon and possession of an illegal weapon (throwing star) around 8:30 p.m. Friday after police were called to the 35500 block of Blackburn Drive to a report of a stabbing. The stabbing was unfounded, but the man was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail.

Police investigated a non-injury traffic collision around 1:15 p.m. Friday on Cherry Street and Smith Avenue in which a 40-foot dumpster fell off a truck while it was entering the street.
