DMV Computers Fail; Better Reschedule
The California Department of Motor Vehicles hit a snag today when all of their computers went down.

As if the lines weren't long enough already at the California Department of Motor Vehicles, surely the computers failing won't add to that.
It's been reported that around 7:30 a.m. today the DMV's computers crashed.
SFGate.com reported that the phone service was still up and running but the DMV lost access to the Internet and to DMV's internal networks.

The cause, according to spokesperson Jan Mendoza, stemmed from overnight changes AT&T performed on routers that affected several state agencies.

Customers coming in with "complex transitions" will be rescheduled, Mendoza said. Those appointments where the customer might be able to fill out a form and the data could be entered later once systems are back up might still be accommodated on a case-by-case basis, Mendoza said.
The Fremont DMV site posted this on its website: "DMV is currently experiencing technical difficulties affecting field offices and the department's Internet website. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience."
