With only four more weekends until Newark Unified begins its school year, make sure to take advantage of the summer things you can do locally.
Here are five ways to spend your summer weekends in Newark:
-
Have a picnic, play basketball or tennis or take your kids to the playgrounds of Newark Community Park. It's a great way to be active with the family while saving some cash.
Grab your swimsuit and head to the Silliman Aquatic Center. Open recreation swim hours are held between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday and between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Put on your active gear and enjoy what Lakeshore Park has to offer. Take a jog around the lake, search for ducks, have a picnic or go fishing. A fishing license is required, so don't forget it!
Get a headstart on back-to-school shopping at the NewPark Mall. Check out newer stores like Cotton On and grab a sweet summer treat at Nirvanaah, the mall's newest ice creamery.
Watch the latest summer flicks at Newark's only movie theatre. It may be smaller, but you'll avoid the crowds and support a business in town.
