Newark residents banking with Fremont Bank won't have to travel across city lines to handle their financial errands after a stand-alone branch opens here next month.
By late June, the independently owned and managed bank will open its first stand-alone branch in Newark at the Newark Marketplace Shopping Center, off Jarvis Avenue and Newark Boulevard.
currently serves Newark customers with a branch located inside the at the same shopping center.
The stand-alone branch will upgrade Newark's facilities and enhance services for customers, said Brian Doran, director of branch banking sales for Fremont Bank.
"The reason is to make a commitment to Newark clients and provide them with a more professional environment to the banking experience," Doran said.
The opening of the 1,650-square-foot facility nestled between and will result in the closure of the branch inside of Safeway.
The proximity of the two locations is ideal for transition, Doran said.
"We've been looking at the property for a while. We wanted to stay as close as possible to the current site," he added.
All of the current branch employees will be transferred to the new branch, Doran said.
The branch will include an expanded safe deposit viewing area, state-of-the art ATM machines and a waiting area.
The extra space will also allow the branch to accommodate its sit-down banking style, Doran said.
"It's more relaxed, more customer-friendly," Doran said.
Fremont Bank was founded in 1964 and has 19 branches across the Bay Area, as far as Brentwood to the north and Carmel to the south.
