• Why Go: Tri-City Volunteers will host a New Year’s gathering  for past and present volunteers will be thanked for their service with the Tri-City Volunteers Food Bank and Thrift Store. Volunteers, past and present, who would like to attend must RSVP and call 510-793-4583 for more information.

• Where/When: , 31090 Dyer St., Union City; Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
• Why Go: Find your purr-fect companion through the Purrfect Cat Rescue cat adoption event held at this local pet store.
• Pricing: Free

• Where/When: , 34007 Alvarado Niles Rd., Union City; Saturday at 1 p.m.
• Why Go: Do good for the community and your library fines by participating in this program. All you have to do is donate food items at the Union City Library and get $1 off of any outstanding fees you have.

• Where/When: Ardenwood Farms, 34600 Ardenwood Blvd., Fremont; Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
• Why Go: Enjoy the first day of the new year by bringing the family to enjoy a walk among butterflies. Learn more about how butterflies survive through the winter while being active. Registration is not required.
• Pricing: Admission fees apply.
