Splish, Splash: City Swim Classes Start This Weekend

A breakdown of swim classes offered through the City of Newark

Spring is officially here, and that means we’re closer to summer than you think.

And if you and/or your child would like a refresher on how to safely splash around in the water, you might want to consider swim classes.

Weekend recreation swim programs with the City of Newark start this weekend and there are plenty of classes to choose from, whether you’re a parent with young children, looking for classes for your elementary school child or teen or need to revamp your skills yourself.

Class costs range from $36 to $73. Classes are held at the at 6800 Mowry Ave.

AQUATOT

This is a parent-child interactive classes for children between ages 6 months and 3 years. Classes are held March 24 to April 28.

  • Class time: Saturdays, 12 p.m. to 12:25 p.m.
  • Cost: $45 for residents, $50 for non-residents.

PRESCHOOL

These swim lessons are available for children between the ages of 3 and 5. Saturday classes are held between March 24 and April 28 and costs $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Sunday classes are held from March 25 to April 29 and costs $36 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

Saturday class times:

  • 10:00-10:25 a.m.
  • 10:30-10:55 a.m.
  • 11:00-11:25 a.m.
  • 11:30-11:55 a.m.
  • 12:00-12:25 p.m.

Sunday class times:

  • 9:30-9:55 a.m.
  • 10:00-10:25 a.m.
  • 10:30-10:55 a.m.
  • 11:00-11:25 a.m.

Youth

Children of all swimming levels are invited to participate in this program designed for children ages 6 to 13. Saturday classes are held between March 24 and April 28 and costs $45 for residents and $50 for non-residents. Sunday classes are held from March 25 to April 29 and costs $36 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

  • 10:00-10:25 a.m.
  • 10:30-10:55 a.m.
  • 11:00-11:25 a.m.
  • 11:30-11:55 a.m.
  • 12:00-12:25 p.m.

Sunday class times:

  • 10:00-10:25 a.m.
  • 10:30-10:55 a.m.
  • 11:00-11:25 a.m.
  • 11:30-11:45 a.m.

COMPETITIVE SWIMMING

For youth between 6 and 13 years who have completed youth level 5 courses can join the city’s competitive swim lesson programs, which offer a more structured swim environment. Saturday classes are held between March 24 and April 28 and costs $66 for residents and $73 for non-residents. Sunday classes are held from March 25 to April 29 and costs $53 for residents and $58 for non-residents.

Saturday class times:

  • 10:00-10:45 a.m.
  • 11:00-11:45 a.m.
  • 12:00-12:45 p.m.

Sunday class time:

  • 11:00-11:45 a.m.

ADULT/TEEN

These 45-minute classes help swimmers learn four competitive strokes and participants. Available for individuals 13 years and older. Saturday classes are held between March 24 and April 28

  • Class Time: 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m.
  • Cost: $66 for residents, $73 for non-residents.
