Little League Officials Say Boardroom and Snack Bar Burglarized

The incident occurred some time between Saturday night and Sunday morning at Newark Junior High School.

Newark American Little League officials released a statement Tuesday reporting that the league's boardroom and snack bar had been vandalized and burglarized over the weekend.

Here are highlights from the NALL press release:

  • The Newark American Little League boardroom and snack bar at was vandalized and burglarized sometime Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
  • All of the candy from the snack shack was stolen, along with 40-50 unopened boxes of candy used for fundraising that was to be returned to the vendor this week. A lock boxcontaining a small amount of cash was also broken into. 
  • Damage includes three doors and locks and there was a a hole in the building. It also appears that someone attempted to light the exterior of the building on fire.
  • The snack bar's countertop was destroyed and a hole was put into sheetrock that leads into the league's boardroom. 
  • Contents from the umpire room were ransacked. 
  • The equipment room lock was broken and fundraising candy was taken.
  • A copy machine and printer was damaged with powdered sugar and water and graffiti was written on the walls inside the clubhouse.
  • The walls and floors were litteredwith paperwork, glue, condiments, cocoa mix, and powdered sugar from the snack shack.

Newark American Little League is a non-profit organization that provides a high quality instructional and athletic baseball experience to the children of Newark. The organization is run entirely by volunteers and relies heavily on proceeds from fundraisers and snack shack sales. This incident will cause a huge setback for the league.
