Newark Runners Finish in Top 100 of Their Divisions at Bay to Breakers
Among Newark's fastest runners was Carlos Zarate, who finished second in the men's 70-79 age group.

Newark residents were among the top 100 finishers in their divisions during Sunday's centennial Zazzle Bay to Breakers 12k Foot Race.
The quickest of them was Travis Turner, who ranked 63rd in the 20- to 29-year old male division. He finished in 47:26 minutes and ranked 220th overall.
The highest-placing Newark runner in his division was Carlos Zarate. He came in second in the 70- to 79-year-old male age division with a finish time of 1:07:41.
The fastest woman in Newark was Roberta Sorenson, who ranked 10th in the 60- to 69-year-old female division with a finish time of 1:09:39.
In the 60- to 69-year old male division, Philip Fraher Jr. ranked sixth with a finish time of 53:47 minutes.
Christopher Sullivan finished under an hour at 56:42, coming in ninth in the 50- to 59-year-old male division.
Other top runners include Casey Harvey, who completed the course in 1:02:01, and Jorge Castillo, whose finish time was 1:22:59.

Newark residents participated in the race, including city official Terrence Grindall.
A total of 43,414 registered participants completed the 7.5-mile race, according to the race results. Ridouane Harroufi of Morocco, came in first, in 34:26 minutes.
