Dine With The Gamboas At New Family Restaurant

Anny's Family Restaurant opened in Newark two weeks ago for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

In the Gamboa’s family kitchen, food is always good and everyone knows how to cook.

And since Jan. 11, the family has served up their specialties in Newark from sun up to sun down.

Being part of the restaurant business isn’t something new for the Gamboas.

Suarez and Ernesto Gamboa’s father, Michael, has always worked in the restaurant business. He was once an employee (and chef) at Country Way in Fremont and is currently the owner of in Milpitas.

Michael Gamboa also has co-owned with his relatives in Castro Valley, which is now operated by a cousin of Ernesto Gambo and Suarez.

However, owning a restaurant wasn’t always in the plans for siblings. Ernesto Gamboa was in construction and Suarez dreamt of being a preschool teacher.

But then each of them fell in love with the restaurant business – Gamboa when he began helping his cousin at Capers and Suarez when she was studying at the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco.

Now, Suarez, Ernesto and Yarly Gamboa hope to build a restaurant with its own identity with Anny’s.

“It can be stressing,” Suarez said about running a family business. “But the outcome is to make people happy, and once you see that, you know you’re doing something right.”

Ernesto Gamboa added, “It’s like what’s on the front of our menu. We serve you exceptionally to please you. It’s something we take pride in.”

Another goal the family hopes to take pride in with Anny’s is to maintain a family friendly environment, Yarly Gamboa said.

Suarez emphasized, “We want to keep it family style – when people can come in and feel comfortable.”

Family already is found in every corner of the restaurant. All of the employees of Anny’s Restaurant are part of the Gamboa family and the eatery is named after Ernesto and Yarly’s oldest child.

The sense of family is also found in Anny’s entrees, which often include recipes that have been adapted and modified from the menus of Omega and Capers.

The menu is vast and ranges from tasty omelettes and pancakes to burgers, chili hot dogs and tender steaks – but all items (except waffles) are available all day. They also specialize in all-American desserts like chocolate cake, fruit pies and bread pudding.

“It’s all fresh, all homemade,” Suarez said

Ernesto Gamboa said consistency is what you’ll find in each dish and he has learned every community has a different measure of what is appetizing.

“I’ve go to sell what works for the customer and accustom to what they want,” Ernesto Gamboa said. “When you please people, that’s the reward you get. It’s either about the productivity or the quality. You want something productive, but with quality.”

Located at 5486 Central Ave. in Newark, the restaurant is open seven days a week. For more information regarding hours of operation and contact, to visit Anny’s Family Restaurant on Newark Patch’s directory.
