FERMONT, CA — Lucky Supermarkets confirmed that its Fremont store on Mission Boulevard will close Nov. 3.

Company officials blamed low performance as the reason for the longstanding grocery store's shutdown.

"Due to the underperformance of this store location, it is beneficial to the overall company health to close this store,” said a spokesperson for parent firm, The Save Mart Companies.

This is not the only Lucky on the chopping block in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A 5-year-old Lucky market at Dublin's Fallon Gateway shopping center and a longtime Millbrae store also will shut their doors Nov 3.

A four-decades-old Larkspur Lucky site closed in April, and a Capitola locale in Santa Cruz County closed in August.

The Save Mart spokesperson did not elaborate on the pending Fremont shutdown or the number of employees affected, but did say the store associates "have the opportunity to transfer to our neighboring stores."

In addition to the Mission Boulevard site, the chain operates Fremont stores at 5000 Mowry Ave., 34101 Fremont Blvd. and 35820 Fremont Blvd.

"Lucky remains committed to the city of Fremont and continues to serve the community with our other three stores," the spokesperson said.

Lucky Supermarkets are also in neighboring Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and Union City.

The Save Mart Companies acquired Lucky in 2007 and in 2015 began rebranding the chain to Lucky California. Central California-based Save Mart operates approximately 200 stores under the banners of Lucky, Save Mart and FoodMaxx, according to corporate officials.

Located at 40055 Mission Blvd., the Mission Valley Shopping Center's Lucky will permanently cease operations Friday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m.
