Man Arrested After Admitting to Throwing Gun Out of Car

Authorities said the man, who was on parole, leaned out of a car to dispose of the firearm.

A Union City man on parole was arrested on various charges early Saturday morning after police said he threw a firearm out of a vehicle during a traffic stop.

An officer was pulling a vehicle on Interstate 880 around 12:15 a.m., and began exiting on Decoto Road near the Fremont-Newark border.

Before the car came to a stop, the man leaned out of the vehicle’s passenger seat window and threw “a ‘gun’ outside of the vehicle,” according to .

The officer held the vehicle’s four occupants at gunpoint while waiting for more officers to arrive to the scene and traffic was shut down with the assistance of , authorities said.

When more officers arrived, all of the vehicle’s occupants were detained and the gun, a revolver, was recovered. The front seat passenger was identified as parolee Richard Partida, 25, of Union City, and Partida confessed to possessing a gun and disposing of it.

Partida was arrested on suspicion of destruction of evidence, being a convicted felon carrying a concealed firearm, being a violent felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm in a public place and violating parole.

The driver was identified as parolee Ryan Taylor, 23, of San Lorenzo, and he was arrested on suspicion of violating parole.

The two other occupants of the vehicle were released. Partida and Taylor was arrested and booked into .
