Man Arrested After Crashing into Light Pole With Stolen Car

Police said the man ran several stop signs before he was apprehended.

A 20-year-old man was arrested on several charges after he ran several stop signs and ended up colliding with a curb and crashing into a light pole, police said.

Authorities said Martin Harlon, a transient out of Livermore and Newark, was arrested after an officer witnessed the driver of a 1997 Nissan Altima running a stop sign on Spruce Street around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to a alert.

That officer attempted to pull the car over and learned that the Altima was reported missing out of Newark around 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Harlon did not stop but rather sped off and the officer discontinued pursuing the car, police said. Harlon then ran several more stop signs until he hit a curb at Mayhews Landing Road and Dijon Street and then continued southbound on Newark Boulevard before it crashed into the light pole, police said.

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, evading arrest, possession of burglary tools, driving under the influence, driving without a license and a hit-and-run. He was booked into Fremont Jail.
