Man Arrested For Taking Stop Sign

The Newark man was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth, being under the influence of a controlled substance and theft of a street or stop sign.

A 25-year-old man was arrested early Tuesday morning when Newark police found him disassembling a stop sign, according to police.

Officers responded to a call about a man taking apart a sign near Jacques Cafe and Lounge at 6991 Thornton Ave. around 12:20 a.m., police said.

Arriving officers found the man disassembling the stop sign. The suspect, identified as Newark resident Eric Browne, was also found with a pole, brackets, and four street name signs, police said.

Police said Browne also was carrying several bindles of methamphetamine.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of meth, being under the influence of a controlled substance, and theft of a street or stop sign, according to police.

He was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin.
