Man Leads Police on Foot Chase After Trying to Pass Forged Checks

Police arrested a man at the Rosemont Shopping Center after a report of a forgery at a nearby bank.

A man was shortly hospitalized and arrested after he led officers on a short foot chase Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Acting Sgt. David Lee said Newark police officers were called to Wells Fargo bank near Safeway around 3:20 p.m. when a man tried to pass a forged check at the bank.

The man then fled but was quickly detained after officers caught him. The suspect sustained minor injuries during the pursuit but is in custody and will be charged, Lee added.
