Man Shot By Newark Police Officer Friday

The man is hospitalized for his injuries.

Newark, California (Friday, June 21, 2024)

On Friday, June 21, 2024, at approximately 4:27 AM Newark Police Officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 5800 block of Jarvis Avenue. Officers were informed there was a male subject pointing a gun at motorists in the area. At 4:30 AM officers arrived on scene and were able to locate the subject at a nearby gas station.

Officers contacted the subject who failed to comply with officers' commands. During the contact an officer-involved-shooting occurred with one officer discharging their service weapon, striking the subject once.

Officers immediately rendered aid, and summoned emergency medical personnel. The male, a 34-year-old subject out of Newark, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment and is in stable condition. The firearm was later determined to be a replica of a Glock pistol.

The Newark Police Department Detective Unit responded to the scene and has taken over this ongoing investigation. No other members of the public or officers were injured during this incident.
