Man Who Put Fist Through Window Arrested After Bloody Fight With Police

A domestic dispute erupted into a bloody brawl Saturday night when a man put his fist through a window, then bled all over police during a struggle in which the suspect was bitten by a police dog.

Newark resident Edgar Real, 27, was arrested on charges of battery upon a peace officer, resisting arrest, assault and child abuse, according to one published report.

Newark Police Commander Renny Lawson told Patch that incident began after 6:30 p.m. Saturday when Real became embroiled in a domestic dispute that prompted family members to call the police.

Lawson said Real ran away from home to the AllCare Veterinary Hospital at 6625 Thornton Avenue.

Officers arrived there to find him bleeding profusely from what was later discovered to be an arterial wound sustained when he punched through a window at the hospital.

Lawson said Real fought with Newark and Fremont officers who unleashed a police dog on the suspect. Lawson said the dog bit Real who was finally subdued and taken to a local hospital.

A Newark police officer also sustained minor injuries and was treated and released.

Lawson had no word on Real's condition but said it is expected that the suspect will be charged by the Alameda County District Attorney's office some time Tuesday.
