- As schools prepare to close up for summer, the Board of Education plans to meet and discuss the 2011-12 school year budget and could vote on more cuts to the district’s classified staff at its next board meeting on Tuesday, June 7. The meeting starts 7:30 p.m. at the .
- Betty Gentry’s 48th Dance Revue kicked off Sunday and ends with a final show on Tuesday. While tickets are only available from the show’s dancers, we thought you ought to know that this is Gentry’s last year. City officials have confirmed that she has decided to retire. .
- The school year is ending and that means seniors at will put on their caps and gowns and graduate. This year’s graduation ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 11. ’s graduation ceremony will be held 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9.
- Learn about how to stay active and healthy at the Healthy Parks Healthy People Festival on Saturday, June 11, at the Quarry Lakes Regional Recreation Area. The East Bay Regional Park District is hosting the free event to encourage families to learn about outdoor recreation activities. Healthy food will be available to purchase. Parking and admission is free.
- Attend a charity breakfast on Sunday hosted by the Newark Portuguese Sports Club and the Kruzin’ for the Cure Relay for Life team on Sunday, June 12. The cost is $7 and the menu includes pancakes, eggs, bacon and linguisa. Half of the profit will go toward the American Cancer Society through Newark’s Relay for Life.
