Need to Know: Golf Tournament, Deadline for Elections, Memorial Service

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through Aug. 21.

  1. The City of Newark is now accepting entries for the 15th Annual Golf “Fore” Newark Kids golf tournament, which will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2, at the Sunol Valley Golf Course, 6900 Mission Rd., Sunol. Proceeds go toward the City of Newark’s youth programs. The cost is $99 before Sept. 2 and $109 after. See the attached preview for more details.
  2. The nomination period for people interested in running for mayor or city council ends this week. If you want to be on the ballot this November, you must turn your forms into the City Clerk Sheila Harrington by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17. to see who has expressed interest in running so far.
  3. The Washington Hospital on Wheels Van will visit two school sites this week. On Wednesday, Aug. 17, the mobile clinic will be at from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. On Thursday, Aug. 18, the van will be at  from 8:30 a.m. to noon, according to the school district’s website.
  4. A memorial service for Clarence Conrad Walla, a long-time teacher with Newark Unified, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at . It would be Walla’s 80th birthday. Walla died July 29. Click here for more details.
  5. The will bring the best local food trucks around into town again on Friday, Aug. 19. Don’t miss it! It will be the last Friday the trucks make their way to for the NewPark Street Eats. But foodies, don’t fret. The Food Truck Mafia plans to come to NewPark Mall more often. After Aug. 19, they will be at NewPark Mall every Monday through October.
