Need to Know: Last Chance To Visit Santa; Holidays Result in School and City Office Closures

This week, NewPark hosts last Santa Claus visiting hours and schools begin winter vacation.

Here are five things you need to know in and around Newark through Dec. 25.

  1. The holidays are coming up quickly, and it’s the last week your family can visit Santa Claus at to share holiday wishlists and take pictures. Visiting hours with Santa are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. For more information, click here.
  2. Newark schools will begin their winter break this week with starting its break on Dec. 19 and ending it on Jan. 3. will be on break between Dec. 21 and Jan. 3. And schools with the will be on vacation from Dec. 23 to Jan. 6.
  3. Schools aren’t the only ones who will be on break. The majority of city offices will be closed between Dec. 23 and Jan. 2 and reopen on Jan. 3. For more information, visit www.newark.org or call 510-578-4000.
  4. The Newark Unified School Board of Education will meet this week on Tuesday for a regular board meeting that will begin at 7 p.m. at the district office, 5715 Musick Ave. Click here to download the board’s agenda.
  5. It’s also the last week for all of you to donate to local toy drives. to see where you can drop off donations for the toy drive organized by the Viola Blythe Community Service Center and to learn more about the Toys for Tots Drive organized by the Tri-Cities League of Volunteers.
