Firefighters host pancake breakfast, Senior Center opens, Relay for Life and SummerFest come to town

- Alameda County Department firefighters are hosting their annual at in Newark from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. today (Monday). For $5 per person, you get your pancake fix while supporting the Alameda County Firefighters-Local 55 Charity Fund, which supports local community organizations and projects. Fire Station No. 27 is at 39039 Cherry St..
- It’s the day seniors in Newark have been waiting for. The on Tuesday, July 5, at 7401 Enterprise Dr., near Ash Street Park. A grand re-opening celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19.
- For teens who love to cook, learn how to make savory treats at Teen Cooking Creations this Wednesday, July 6. It is the last Teen Cooking Creations event of the series. Teens meet at 4 p.m. at the George M. Silliman Recreation Complex. The class is free after paid admission to the Teen Area. This week’s creation: ice cream sandwiches.
- Don’t be alarmed if you see more than 150 people on the track at Newark Junior High School this weekend. They’re all taking part in Newark’s 24-hour 2011 event.
