Newark Council Set To Adopt Waste Collection Rates Increase

Should council adopt the resolution, customers would see a 3.7 percent increase on waste collection bills.

NEWARK, CA — Newark City Council is expected to adopt a resolution increasing waste collection rates in the city during its Oct. 27 meeting.

Republic Services, Inc. provides waste collection for the city, including trash, recycling and organics collection while BLT Enterprises of Fremont, LLC provides the city’s waste transfer services. Agreements between the city of Newark and both entities include an annual rate adjustment, the city explained in its agenda for the upcoming meeting.

The total proposed rate increase is 3.7 percent and would be effective Jan. 1, 2023, the city said.

Council will also look at adopting a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute a contractual services agreement with All City Management Services, Inc. to provide crossing guard services at intersections near schools that are within the jurisdiction of the Newark Unified School District and will present the results from the 2021 Community Survey.
